15th OKINAWA INTERNATIONAL MOVIE FESTIVAL - April 15(Sat) - 16(Sun), 2023

Story

The setting is the “Ogawa Restaurant,” a ramen shop in Kamaishi (Iwate Prefecture) run by Takeshi Ogawa and his younger daughter Nakayo. Suddenly returning to town is Takeshi’s older daughter Masami, who left home three years ago and has been out of touch ever since.
After his wife, Masae, was never found after being washed away in the tsunami following the Great East Japan Earthquake of March 2011, Takeshi took over the ramen shop. With Takeshi prone to sickness, however, Nakayo assisted her father in the kitchen and other aspects of the business.
Upon the return of Masami, the sisters continue to clash about this and that. Takeshi eventually collapses and is hospitalized. At last, Masami comes to realize just how important Ogawa Restaurant has become to the people of this town.
Kamaishi is a small community wedged between mountains and the sea. The residents have endured numerous natural disasters over the decades, learning to cooperate in supporting their mutual livelihoods. The film was shot in this town, which continues to retain clear vestiges of the Showa Period (1926-89). It relates the saga of the renaissance of a family played out against the backdrop of the kind and caring nature of the people of Kamaishi.
