Story
With the aim of “a fusion of rock and roll and circus,” this live event planned and produced by the Rolling Stones, who also served as hosts, was shot in the middle of Swinging London over two days in December 1968.
The Stones had just released their masterpiece album “Beggars Banquet,” including the iconic song “Sympathy for the Devil,” in which Jaggar’s performance is considered the best in the band’s history.
The Dirty Mac, a superband teaming John Lennon with Eric Clapton and Keith Richards for this time only marked the first time John Lennon performed with someone other than the Beatles. It was also the first public performance of John with Yoko Ono. This was also the last performance of the Stones with leader Brian Jones, who died at the age of 27, 6 months after this film was shot.
For various reasons, this film, shot at the peak of excitement of rock and roll, was lost for 28 years until 1996. This year we will be showing the latest version, a 4K restoration created in 2019.
