15th OKINAWA INTERNATIONAL MOVIE FESTIVAL - April 15(Sat) - 16(Sun), 2023

Story

This film was selected for the 56th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival division featuring competition for top prize honors. It received a standing ovation from the local guests. Set in the Koza district of Okinawa City, it tells the saga of 17-year-old Aoi (played by Kotone Hanase), who lives with her husband and their infant son and encounters the cruel realities of the everyday world.
Aoi, struggling to deal with the irrationalities and absurdities of life, descends into state of pain and despair. Nevertheless, she craves to experience the true essence of humanity, evolving as a hard-hitting human drama rooted in the passion that a young mother feels for her child.
This is the third film directed by Masaaki Kudo, following I’m Crazy (2019) and Unprecedented (scheduled for release in 2023). His works continue to earn keen attention at film festivals around the world.
