Story

The Shuri Gekijyo is the oldest existing movie theater in Okinawa.
Since its opening in 1950, in the ravages of the ground war, it has operated for 72 years with very little change to its appearance.
In its early days, in addition to screening films, it was also used for performances of Okinawan performing arts and for local school events, etc. and was a community facility where people would gather. With the times, it eventually changed to become an adult movie theater.
The theater relaunched during the COVID-19 pandemic in May 2021 as a masterpiece theater, but was suddenly closed with the sudden passing of its third-generation manager Masanori Kinjo in April 2022. Currently, volunteers are investigating and discussing how to keep it going into the future.
This film is a short documentary that portrays the history, present, and future of the Shuri Gekijyo.
