Story
“For quite some time, I had been thinking about coming out to my dear family.”
This documentary is the “coming out” story of Katsuki Mama, the proprietor of a gay bar known as “Kusuo” (Kyushu Man) in the Shinjuku 2-Chome entertainment quarter of Tokyo.
In his late 20s, Katsuki left his native Okinawa to pursue a lifestyle more attuned to his own personality and needs.
Ten years later, he finally informed his parents that he was gay. From that day on, he reports, “My ties with my family have never been better.” The film explores the question of how he interacted with his parents over the years to date.
This documentary film explores his hometown, Naha City in Okinawa Prefecture, looking back on the time when he decided to come out as gay. He relates his true feelings, which he finally feels comfortable sharing with his family and friends.
